Mary Shelley & Frankenstein Background
"English writer Mary Shelley is best known for her horror novel Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus, and was married to poet Percy Bysshe Shelley". She was born in London in 1797, and published Frankenstein in 1818. One of her children died within two weeks of being born, and she had a dream that this child came back to life, which became her inspiration for this novel to use in a ghost story writing contest. It became a huge success despite her being a female author, and she died at the young age of 54 in 1851.
